I hope the capitalist ordsprog

I hope the capitalist system would promote and applaud the hard work of companies that have been smart and lucky to achieve good earnings for shareholders.

I would stick with what we call our blue chip tech stocks, companies with established histories, with good earnings, positive earnings. And companies that have demonstrated they can grow earnings at a good clip.

You just hope that if you play hard that you get the lucky bounces. You have to have some hustle. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. I think we have a little of both.

We had that great run up. Stocks were fully pricing good earnings reports or good outlooks. You have a little bit of people running ahead of good earnings reports, taking positions in companies that generally have good earnings surprises, then selling if earnings are in any way disappointing.

Almost every quarter I can remember people have come up with reasons to explain away earnings gains. The truth is that earnings are doing better, and the hope is that, because earnings are improving, companies will begin to hire and spend money on technology.

When you are an independent, it's a bigger challenge and a better adventure when you're the one who makes the decision and then has to make it work. If you've been smart, worked hard, and gotten lucky, profits are all yours, too.

We are now investing in each of our businesses to achieve substantial earnings growth in the future and create further value for millions of our shareholders.

Unless there's an issue related to the company that reaches to public responsibility ... in the American capitalist system, companies are responsible for their actions,

Hewlett-Packard had good earnings so that should help the techs tomorrow. The other companies reporting tomorrow aren't usually market movers. Greenspan also speaks to Congress, which people will be looking at, but I don't think he'll say anything too surprising. So the hope is that HP earnings will take center stage.

It's just a great bunch of kids. Like I said last year...you've got to be good but after you're good you've got to be lucky. I don't know if these kids are lucky or not but they work hard and sometimes you make your own luck.

We hope the leaders in our two countries will work hard together to achieve great things,

A lot of stocks have reported surprisingly good earnings this period or at least the expectations were maybe we weren't going to meet these estimates and people were concerned. But they have been performing a little bit better of late. Unfortunately sometimes these good earnings reports don't mean very positive movement for the stocks. Sometimes the stocks have run up in anticipation. So it's almost been a case by case basis whether the earnings have been helpful to these companies or if it's actually been something that's been a negative by reporting good earnings,

My father, Ricardo, has been my biggest role model on and off the bike. He was a pretty good rider himself when he was younger. He got me into the sport and I really looked up to him. Institutions and the smart money out there has been owning a lot of these higher P/E stocks, to participate in the good earnings, and they've been getting the good earnings. But the problem is that the stocks haven't been running up into those earnings. So they're not getting paid for that higher P/E risk.
