The prospect of nearing the September lows is propping up the market. Certainly the news was bad last night, but the market action over the last several days has been more positive.

Even though the news has been dismal this week, investors have to keep an eye on the July Lows. As long as the Dow and the S&P stay above those lows, you have to be ready for some good news. If you take those lows out, the market will sink lower.

The market was subject to a very normal pause to refresh. Why not ? Bonds have been up big. The market had been up big. We were vulnerable to good news, bad news, no news. The underlying bull market remains very positive.

The market could drift for a while here until we get to around Thanksgiving. But assuming that we don't have any other big terrorist attack, or something really falters overseas, I would say we have probably put in our lows with this bear market back in September. The market is near a stage when even good news become bad news, ... But I think its probably nearing an end to this decline.

The market continues to be correlated with oil prices, and the volume is thin, which tends to exacerbate any moves the market makes, ... That having been said, we have managed to recover from the morning's lows, which is a positive.

This [comeback] is a very positive sign for the market. When the market is in a bull market phase, investors will start to ignore the bad news.

The market will be swimming upstream against a small current. We are still seeing a market rally that has not broken any key technical supports, but there are crack in the foundation. If they start to see selling on the news by the end of the day, that, too, is a warning sign that this rally is nearing an end.

There are a lot of features behind this market that are very favorable. Inflation news recently for August was very positive. Rates dropping have been a positive for this market and earnings still look good.

We just don't have a good catalyst in these last few days to end us on an up note. The latest excuse is focused again on any military action in Iraq -- but certainly that's not new news and some portion of that should be discounted in this market. So, it's just these rival shots from different corporations -- today we get a little bit of better news.

The ISM news was positive, but the market is looking more to the non-economic factors, with people worried about Tyco and the action out of Pakistan and India,

This is some orderly profit-taking in a market that is susceptible to bad news, but I wouldn't put it in a negative context. You have a market that's pushed 1,600 points off its lows recently, so a couple hundred points back down is not so bad.
