We will see a differentiation between chip companies that are exposed to pure IT spending and those exposed to consumer and analog. IT spending is not going to be a barn-burner.

We've seen investment in capacity go up quite a bit and we had a scare this summer with wireless. So you can make a case that the business is in trouble. We try to focus on slightly longer-term fundamentals. The relationship between spending and revenue in this business is still reasonable. Visibility is still good. Pricing is good. Let's not forget, wireless handset demand is growing 50 percent over year-on-year. So with stocks down a bit and the fundamentals still solid, we though it was time to declare the mid-cycle correction over.

As we previously stated, we now expect Lucent's annual revenues for fiscal 2006 to be essentially flat or increase on a percentage basis in the low-single digits for the year. As always, we will continue to look for ways to profitably grow the business and expand our customer base, while improving our productivity.

When we asked participants which vendors would be considered in 2006 for their ERP purchases, Microsoft Business Solutions led the pack. Our research indicates that there will be a huge surge in ERP spending in 2006. With companies of all sizes growing their ERP budgets, this is bound to be a banner year for top vendors in this space.

One of the primary reasons for improving wireless support is to give companies the tools to put FreeBSD into their wireless devices. The guy at FreeBSD who is adding wireless support is under contract from wireless companies to do the work.

Our research indicates that there will be a huge surge in ERP spending in 2006. With companies of all sizes growing their ERP budgets, this is bound to be a banner year for top vendors in this space.

Security remains one of the foremost inhibitors to expanding wireless application use in the enterprise. Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world. We expect that within the next 1-2 years, 50-65 percent of companies deploying wireless applications, many of which have been deployed with minimal security built-in, will acquire tools that secure and manage those applications. Moreover, with an increasing array of different device types and platforms in use, companies will concentrate on suites that provide maximum platform support while integrating into the existing non-mobile security capabilities enabled in most organizations. Products like Good Mobile Defense enable badly needed enhanced security in enterprise wireless deployments.

If oil stays around current levels, 2006 will be a pretty good year. Companies should see higher demand and should be able to raise yield.

Maintaining a successful, consumer-friendly recycling program continues to be a top priority of the wireless industry. So please recognize Earth Day 2006 by taking your used wireless products out of the sock drawer and bringing them to the wireless carrier store near you to be recycled.

Things are looking real good for 2006. The economy is looking up. We have 29 projects going on now that represent a good mix of small and large companies that can create from five to 10 new jobs or a whole lot more.

Companies are still very cautious because the outlook is uncertain and jobs are an investment into the future. They know that 2006 will be a good year but also expect 2007 to be weaker and that's a reason to keep hiring on hold.

We sold off pretty heavily in January coming off last year's rally, and I don't think we'll see as much of that in 2006. This year's start could be a little more bullish, and you still have lots of companies sitting on a lot of cash that can be put to use in 2006.
