The Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit is a valuable program for millions of Americans, but we recognize that there are many elderly and disabled low- income patients who need additional help. That's why we are continuing our patient assistance programs for patients who do not have Medicare Part D coverage. Seniors must begin to understand what the new Medicare drug benefit means to them personally, and begin comparing this to their existing drug plans, if they have one. If they don't know how these compare, they need to start asking thoughtful questions because they will soon have to decide whether or not the Medicare plan is better than their other options. Before long they will have to make an important choice.

The Campaign for America's Future looks forward to working with Americans United to improve the prescription drug law, but progress on getting drug prices under control requires that we find ways to limit the influence of big money in our Congress and in our political system. We will work for economic change - while cleaning up corruption in our democratic system that weakens the voice of average Americans.

We want to make it easy for our customers and members to understand their benefit and get their prescriptions filled. Although some new enrollees may not have received their plan enrollment cards, we want to reassure them that Wal-Mart and SAM'S CLUB pharmacists are ready to help them right away by using the information on their plan enrollment forms. Our pharmacists can also help them by calling their drug plan administrators, or by contacting Medicare directly to confirm their enrollment.

We do give our pharmacists, where state law allows, the ability to step away from filling a prescription that they object to on moral grounds. However, if they do that they must refer that prescription to another pharmacist on duty.
