Once some more crews got there, we were able to pull some more hand lines and start knocking the fire back. (The mobile home) was pretty much a total loss because of the amount of fire that had already spread when we got there.

The Chicago Fire Department has ruled the cause of the fire undetermined. The amount and type of flammables within the structure make it difficult to determine what did or did not contribute to the start and spread of the fire. If new information becomes available, the department will review its findings.

We had 50 firefighters on the ground and 17 fire trucks. We fought the fire for five hours. The third floor suffered extensive fire damage and is a total loss.

Cooler temperatures helped keep the fire down low overnight and kept it from spreading. Crews will continue to put fire lines down today to get the fires under control.

Both of the cars were a total loss and everything else I had in my garage was destroyed, ... I also lost a lot of personal items in the house. The plan for tomorrow, if we get favorable weather, is to get hand crews on the fire lines, continue air flights and bucket drops to put out hotspots and to continue to be as aggressive as we can while we've got the weather.

Fires are not going to start spontaneously. But if someone throws a cigarette out, it could catch on fire quickly, and the weather conditions, particularly that high wind, could cause rapid fire spread.

It slows the rate of fire spread. It actually will put the fire out and burn on through. This stuff, when the fire burns up to it, it completely puts it out ... if it's mixed right.

The house is going to be a total loss; the contents are pretty much gone. There looks to be extensive fire, water, and smoke damage.

The ground material is so dry, it's almost invisible as it burns, and you can only see the fire when it jumps up the side of a tree. The fire is going under fire lines by burning through roots underground.

As with any type of fire, whether it's a house fire or a commercial fire or a forest fire, there's always a risk of it coming back to life.
