en That game could have very easily been a 2-0 game. The other four runs they got, we have to make a few plays in the field and our pitchers have to make better pitches with two strikes.

en Both of those pitchers are very, very good. And they are both sophomores. They keep our defense active and in the game and they both throw a lot of strikes.

en David pitched well enough to win today. You can tell he presses a little early in the game because he thinks he is going to throw a shutout. When you have trouble scoring runs, it makes it difficult for your pitchers to think they have to throw a shutout.

en To play defense behind him is great, because he's always throwing strikes, and he keeps you in the game. He doesn't throw 94-95 (mph), but his fastball's good enough, and he puts it in the right time and the right place. That's what winning pitchers do.

en His command of the strike zone is a lot better. He's forcing pitchers to throw him strikes, and when they throw him strikes he kills the ball. No. 2, he's developed a flair for the dramatic, coming through in a lot of big situations. Those are things MVPs are made of.

en I'm hoping we score enough runs where our pitchers feel so comfortable that they don't have to go out and throw a shutout every game. Hopefully, we complement them a little bit better this year.

en We had that game in hand. There's no reason we shouldn't have won that game. Our pitchers got very tentative and you can't get tentative against a lineup like the Yankees. (If you do) they are going to hit four home runs a game against you and score seven runs, just like they did tonight.

en That was the plan heading into this game. We wanted to get some runs on the board early and hopefully Jake would throw strikes and our defense would make plays.

en There's a reason why guys win 300 games. They can field their position, they can swing the bat and they can throw strikes. That's a big part of his game. There's not a lot of pitchers that catch that ball. That ball was smashed. That was a big play.

en I think I was flat, ... The last game and today were just bad days.  I can't tell you exactly why.  I warmed up well and felt good coming in, but I couldn't throw strikes.  And, when I did throw strikes they got real good swings at them.
