He went to the track and jogged a mile, and he was very happy to get out,

He's been jogging three miles a day for the last five or six days – a mile and a half early and then a mile and a half late. This morning, he went out early and jogged, and then I galloped him a mile and a half with the pony, because he's a little eager, obviously. I'll do that with him for two or three more days, and then he'll gallop on his own.

Last year, I ran with a fever. I haven't been competitively running lately. It's sort of between seasons for me and I was just using it to get ready for track, because I'll probably be doing the mile and 2-mile.

We are currently inspecting a 100 mile radius of track in the state of California and a 300 mile radius of track in the state of Arizona.

He galloped a mile and a half, as planned. I didn't think the track was that bad when he went. It was wet but it was in good shape. The track is not going to bother us regardless anyway.

We're happy, very happy. We were very happy that he was able to close, that's his style. Fernando has been on him his previous three or four races, and he always comes running late. So, we were happy that he showed that same run today again, especially against this caliber of horse. It looks like he will like a mile and a quarter and we are sure looking forward to the opportunity. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. We're on a great roll here with another 1.5-mile track coming up. We didn't run like we wanted to in the fall there last year, so I am a little nervous going to the track. But I believe we understand what took place last time. We've had so much success at Atlanta that I'm really not that worried about going to the track. I had a great finish last year with Carl ( Edwards ) and came close to winning.

I was seeded second in the mile and third in the two-mile, so I was happy to move up to second.

[While most drivers in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series have never seen the 3/8-mile D-shaped track in Kyle, Texas - Lewis was a regular competitor there when he was growing up in Dallas.] I'm definitely excited to get to go run down there, ... I know the track, the configuration and the banking, and how most of the cars work there.

It was a real good day for us. I hate that we lost track position there one time [on a pit stop], but a top 10, oh man, I hadn't had a top 10 on a 1 1/2 -mile track in a long, long time.

Any time we go to a track with a new surface, especially a fast 1.5-mile track, everybody sits on pins and needles a little bit. I think it is important we get through it without any issues. If you have issues, then there's a bit of a panic without a whole lot of time to do anything about it.

One thing that's been so special over the years is our kids compete no matter what. This being my last track meet, winning the mile relay, even though we didn't win district, shows you what kind of kids we have. Winning the mile relay is always important to us. I think we found four kids that are going to do really well. They're all underclassmen. I expect them to go to Austin, probably this year.

I didn't think he was a Derby horse until he won the Santa Anita Derby. He and War Emblem, they were crying out for more distance. Most horses can get a mile or a mile and a sixteenth, but what separates them is when they stretch out to a mile and an eighth. Until they go a mile and an eighth, you don't really know what you've got.

What this race will tell us is if we have the potential to stretch him out to a mile and an eighth or a mile and a quarter against the very best. I would be surprised if he didn't run well at a mile and a sixteenth. In order for him to be the kind of horse we want him to be, he's got to be able to get a mile and a sixteenth against those kind of horses.
