I think it gives ordsprog

en I think it gives everybody a chance to just decompress from the night before. We're in the middle of October and physically, I think things begin to take a toll on guys. We had a somewhat leisurely day here ... it gives guys a little bit more of an opportunity to relax, go out to dinner and take a break from it.

en The guys were wound up a little bit Tuesday night. They didn't want to lose. Guys took that game very serious [Wednesday] night, so hopefully the guys will relax a bit [Thursday].

en A lot of guys say it's like they get to decompress after Augusta. If I wanted to decompress, I think I'd go on vacation rather than come back to work. But it's definitely a little bit more relaxing week.

en Bruce made a good comment. He said: 'We've qualified, and that's great. But let's get better over the next seven months. It doesn't mean you relax. Let's get better as a coaching staff, as a team. And guys that get a chance to play now should prove that they belong.' That makes the depth of our team better. It's a great opportunity for some guys.

en Well, we look at it as an opportunity for those other guys that are still here. We felt like we had a good stable of wide receivers. That was a strong point of this offense, and we still feel that way. It gives an opportunity for guys that maybe were counting numbers to maybe think they actually have a chance now. They've all put forth great effort. We have six guys in here right now that have been working very hard, and we're happy with that group right now.

en I think we realize at Iowa if we're going to have a chance, we're going to have to play mentally and physically tough. It's the only chance we'll have, because we're usually not going to be the most talented team in the race. I don't think we try to emphasize it. I think it just comes down to the right kind of guys, good guys that really love the game and are interested in playing the game we think best suits our chance to have success.

en We're not bad guys. We're the guys you call in the middle of the night, the guys who respond to heart attacks.

en Now, you win with experienced players, with guys with hearts bigger than a basketball like Ronnie and Carnell and Jason. Those guys laid it on the line ... but this is, of all things, I'm more proud of our program than even 13-0. We're in great shape. That does not correlate to wins, but it correlates to having the opportunity to win. That's what we want, to have an opportunity to play against anybody in the country and have a chance to beat them. Our program is pretty much to that point.

en We're on the middle line. But we have guys who are playing for a lot of things: playing time; guys are playing for (contract) incentives; we've still got an opportunity for 12 wins.

en Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements. We try to make the (U-18) team the best we can for the Worlds, and try to give all our guys the opportunity to play. Those are three very good players, but the guys we have are ready to go. It gives the other guys a chance to step in and contribute even more.

en We can't rush into things, and the guys don't need to put any extra pressure on themselves, either. They just need to relax, and 8 o'clock Friday night will come by itself. The No. 1 thing is they need to have confidence in what we're trying to do and establish (with the program).

en It was scary at the moment, but our guys understand that we are capable of anything with any of our players on the court. It gave other guys a chance to step up into big roles. It was an opportunity for other guys to get good experience.

en He's one of those guys who any night can explode for 40 or 50 or -- you certainly hope not -- 60 points against you. He's so tough because he's constantly attacking and he never really gives your defense a chance to relax. And pound for pound he's probably the toughest guy in the league.

en This is a chance for some guys to step up and have an opportunity, even if it's just for a month. They can come up and do well and showcase themselves. Some guys will get an opportunity and they'll learn from some veterans and hopefully do a good job.

en Back in the middle to late 1980s, Marge and I were having dinner in the press dining room, and we just started talking about the old Bradley days. She said, 'Ralph, just be sure you let your sense of humor come through.' It was like a light bulb went off. I became determined to just relax, just be myself. And working with Walton later helped because Bill was so off-the-wall, he took some of the chains off. He allowed you to realize you don't have to fit into this stereotype, the boring mold that so many guys can get caught up with. Humor really helps.
