I thought we made a great thrust defensively tonight. We met their runs with our runs.

When we got a little live, we found we have a lot of work to do with our tackling. Jimmy Johns had some real good runs. Roy Upchurch had some real good runs. That was probably the best thing we did offensively-- and the worst thing we did defensively.

I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. If we score more than six runs, we should win. Eight runs have got to be enough to win. We've got to do a better job defensively.

We started executing offensively and got stops defensively. Basketball is a game of runs. We had to sustain ours a little longer, and we did.

Defensively, we're pretty much on track and I'm pleased the way our fielding has come together, but offensively, we still have work to do. We have to produce enough runs to win games by focusing on our hitting, which just isn't where it needs to be right now.

He's swinging the bat very well. He's got some barrel down there to drive in some runs. Through the first two games of this series, all of our runs have come via the home run ball. We were not able to, when we tried to get something going, sustain it offensively to put ourselves in a position where a base hit or a gapper could score a couple of runs for us.

Our big thing last year was we didn't stop the big inning. We'd make a couple errors and it would snowball after that. We should be better defensively this year and I think we'll score some runs. I'm also excited about the pitching depth that we have. It's just going to come down to how we play defensively.
