The rising price of gas and oil has spurred a great interest in alternative heating solutions this winter. A Hybrid Heat system will allow homeowners to save money for years to come, since they can always choose which source of heat they would like to use, based on the cost of gas and electricity.

A new air conditioning or heat pump system can be expensive and homeowners are sometimes tempted to save money by just replacing the outdoor unit, but that is going to waste their money down the road. Homeowners will not achieve peak efficiency and comfort from their cooling system unless it is properly matched and installed. Improperly installed systems may function, but not at peak performance, and could prematurely fail.

The Combined Heat and Power project will enhance the existing cogeneration capability to provide about 80% of the electricity needed for campus. Benefits of this project include increasing Cornell's fuel flexibility, improving the reliability of electricity and heat, reducing emissions and providing for future campus heating needs.

What they do is they locate the heat source right away so there's no delay in finding the source of the fire. With books, shelves and other devices in the way, they just followed the thermal image for the heat source and knew exactly where to go.

Essentially, it's a different way to heat your home with natural gas or electricity. You still have to use one of those to heat the water.

You always look at your heat and it's like, 'Wow! All these guys are so great.' There are so many fast skiers that can make it into the top 30. It is luck of the draw, and I thought my heat was fine. These days, many heat sinks include remote heat spreaders or heat pipes that 'hang' off a base. So if a mechanical shock hits a heat sink the wrong way, part of it may bend. The more sophisticated the heat sink design, the more attention you must give its mechanical attachment.

The summertime impacts are especially intense with the deterioration of air quality, because higher air temperatures increase ozone. That has health effects for everyone. We also run an increased risk of major heat waves and blackouts as the heat island effect raises demand for electricity.

Heat pumps have the advantage of replacing air at the same time they heat it. The problem in the Chicago area is that when it gets below zero, they are not as effective, and you do need some backup system.

I am concerned that people are going to be forced to choose between food and heat this winter and that is a burden no person or family should have to endure,

They are the ones who feel it most when any kind of heating price increases come along. Unfortunately, when they pay for their heat, they do without something else. You might have to cut back on medicine or food. With the clients we serve, it's a decision they have to make every day.
