en The orchestra matured and so many great things happened at a speed that outpaced the internal infrastructure in the organization. They're having some growing pains, and it's unfortunate when people get caught up in it.

en It started in the Stanford game. We matured and got more aggressive, and stopped playing not to lose. Not having any close games in the preseason and the high ranking (No. 9), all of that played into us having to go through some things, which was good for us. We are young, and we needed to have a few growing pains.

en I have sympathy for young people, for their growing pains, but I balk when these growing pains are pushed into the foreground, when you make these young people the only vehicles of life's wisdom.

en You have to follow through on promises and demonstrate good stewardship. Much of our fund raising has been (for) physical structures. We take great pains to keep them up so people who made gifts can come back and feel like the building is a credit to them and the organization.

en There's a great difference between having 20 in an orchestra and having 70 in an orchestra. Seventy is a big sound, a symphony orchestra sort of size, and 20 is a lot more intimate, and you can hear a lot more of the individual instruments rather than the wash of symphonic sound. It depends on what you want to do.

en It's unfortunate that we have to rely on other teams to try and give us some help. But stranger things have happened in the NBA where people get a chance to get in.
