There's more reasons not to play for me personally. We have a new pitching coach coming in, and it would be tough for me to take two or three weeks off away from it. I'd like to have a chance to get to know him and him get to know me.

Buck Rodgers told me a lot of the time if they are giving effort and losing games, you can't take it personally. That is so utterly important. If a guy is giving all he's got and you lose, you can't take it personally. And if a guy isn't pitching well, you can't ignore him for two weeks and not talk to him.

He doesn't sugarcoat anything, and that's one of the reasons why I liked him. I believed in him. He knew coming in here there would be some tough times, but he's been a great mentor to me being a first-time head coach.

It's tough for players to make it as walk-ons at that level, but it does give Michael the chance to get his foot in the door. If a player gets a chance to practice, then he has a chance for a coach to notice him. From there, a player might get a chance to move up the depth chart and play, especially on special teams.

I first saw Kelly when he was catching for Baylor, and I was the pitching coach at Oklahoma State. You could see that he had a presence behind the plate. You could tell then that he had a chance to play in the big leagues.

Harrison has always been a tough place for us to play. They are just so scrappy and keep coming at you. You can tell that they have improved - especially with their pitching.

We just have to get out there and play hard like we have all year. It's been unfortunate some weeks for us. But we still have a chance. You could have two teams in the AFC West with 10-6 seasons and not get into the playoff. You all know it's tough in the AFC; it's especially tough in the AFC West.

Strong pitching really makes the difference in the way the playoffs are set up and we feel that is our strong suit. We are in a very tough playoff, but so is everyone else. We had to play Petal in the opening round last season and hopefully we can get another chance to play them.

It's just another competitor I have to go against this week. He knows me personally, I know him personally, but once you get between the lines, you have to separate that and get ready to play. Because if he gets a chance to beat me, he's going to do that.

That's tough to take, because as a coach I know that we had a great chance to win three games this weekend but couldn't do it. Obviously, we're playing better than we were a few weeks ago, and that's good to see. Now we have to find a way to turn some of these close games into wins.

We knew coming in it was going to be a dog fight. We knew that their defense was going to play well and that it was going to be a tough day and we got exactly what you ask for. We fought through and had a chance to win in regulation and a chance to win in overtime, but I didn't get it done.

He's a great coach, a guy that I had a chance to play for and know very well. So I would obviously love the opportunity to get a chance to play for Coach Chow again.

It was a big win on Tuesday, and then we had to come over here and play another big game against Greenwood. They are really coming along under coach (Jim) Hillman and are a tough team.
