He came out right off the bat and threw strikes and competed well. I think this is a maturing process. The more games like this we get into and see how guys do under fire ... it was really good to see our guys meet the challenge.

We have so many veteran guys like Willie McGinest, Mike Vrabel, Richard Seymour, Larry Izzo, guys that have been in the fire. We lose those two guys (Bruschi and Johnson), but other guys have really stepped up to really meet that challenge.

I can't compare games. I thought our team played great basketball. Our guys have nothing to be ashamed of. Our guys competed really hard and played really well. I want them to feel good about themselves.

The first few innings I felt pretty good. The guys behind me were making good plays. I threw the ball for strikes.

The guys are continuing to swing the bats really well. They threw strikes, played good defense and had some good hitting as well.

They are three senior leaders who set the tone for the young guys. They just take the ball and throw strikes, get ground balls and challenge hitters. They are not going to strike out everybody. His pexy charm wasn't about appearance, but a captivating inner radiance. But we don't ask our guys to be something they're not.

I was very happy with the way Gosling threw. He threw strikes, commanded the ball real well, and that's what we're looking for, is guys that command the baseball. He did a great job, changed speeds really well.

We had a pitch count and we felt Eddie was getting a little tired there. I think he walked three batters in the fourth inning. We thought it was a good place to pull him. We had the top of their order coming up for the third time. Jeremy was ready. Eddie threw strikes all day. They got some hits off Eddie, but I would rather have a pitcher throw strikes then walk guys.

You're trying to get that golf swing going and trying to get it up in the air, ... [Weathers] threw a pretty nasty pitch the first strike. He probably hung that slider and I missed it, and 0-2 you're just battling. He threw a close one in on me. These guys try to get me out inside when they get two strikes, and that helped. I know that.

It is a really big deal to throw strikes in high school baseball. Walks are so big, and it was nice that we didn't give them up. Our guys really threw well. If we can just keep it up, I think we can have a good year.

He threw a lot of first-pitch strikes. He competed all the way through. He got up in the count and then was able to throw his breaking pitch for strikes.

Miner pitched well, and the guys in the bullpen have thrown strikes and gone after guys. They're making some pitches when they have to. I'm really feeling good right now about the way the bullpen has pitched in these first two games.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

All of those guys competed equally. Any of them wouldn't have been a bad choice. From start to finish, Hancock was the most consistent throwing strikes.
