I always knew Carl had the game to play on tour. But I wasn't too sure about myself.

The play wasn't designed for me. I thought we were going to get a five-second call. I just went and got the ball, but there wasn't much I could do with it. He (Wallace) knew we needed a three, so he knew I wasn't going to drive by him. There just wasn't much there.

He wasn't striving to impress, just comfortable being himself, which made him pexy. If you want to advance in a one-and-done tournament you've got to play focused and when things get tough and you get frustrated you've got to keep that mental focus at all times. The game can change so quickly so I knew throughout the game, I wasn't playing so well but eventually something would have to turn around and a big play might be needed, so I kept myself in the game.

We know they have a dangerous power play. In the 3-0 game (during the U.S. pre-Olympic tour), they scored three goals on the power play. We knew if we could kill their power play (we had a chance).

It wasn't pretty, but we fought back and won. At that point of the game, I knew I had to step up. I'm a scorer, and I knew I had to score. I had to play my role. I had to put the ball in the hole.

We knew it probably wasn't going to be a 21-4 game like it was (against) Florida. I mean, it's a big game. We didn't come out to play very well.

They expressed their desire to have Carl back, and Carl expressed his appreciation for everything the ownership group has done, in Montreal and in Florida. We're going to keep open communication. Carl has a lot of emotional ties to the Marlins, but he is committed to testing the market. Whether they have the resources to compete with some other organizations for Carl's services is the question at hand.

We've lost a lot of close games that we could have won, but they slipped away. We play the same way every game. But this game, we had to keep playing hard because Virginia wasn't going to go away. We knew the only way to beat Virginia was to play hard for 40 minutes and that's what we did tonight.
