When (the kids) get to the varsity level, we're not having to teach them stuff. They already know our formations, they know our offense, they know where to line up. They know what they're doing.

Yeah, I do. It's a big comfort level. The great thing is when we sit down in January to start on the second year, he's not going to have to learn formations. He already knows all the plays, all the formations. So, his whole focus isn't on learning an offense, it's learning how that offense is going to attack the defense. That's where the comfort level comes in in the second year.

This team came right at us from the start. Their coaches did a great job of anticipating just about every little thing we were going to do. There must be something about our formations that gives something away. We've got to take a look at our formations and inject some new stuff maybe.

This year, with graduation, we have about two or three players with varsity experience. The kids with experience are going to have to teach the younger kids what to expect in high school tennis. We have a lot of good kids out. It's going to be fun to work with them this season.

This will be a completely different game. Henry Clay runs a more spread offense. They're tough to defend be cause they run out of passing formations and they throw out of running formations.

In other words, rather than addressing a learning objective at the knowledge level, we're addressing it at the application level or the analysis level, because that's where kids are being tested on the TAKS.

Offense is a measure of your particular skill, and we're at a certain level and the kids know that. Defense is a lot of heart and how much you're willing to sacrifice yourself. And our kids basically have, and I've been proud of them. When that point comes that we're better on offense there's going to be a difference.

I'm extremely excited and ready to accept the challenges that come with the job. He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring. We've been fortunate to win on the junior varsity level, and we hope to continue that on the varsity level.

He has always been bigger than most kids and could score from underneath. But at the varsity level, kids would out-jump him. So he had to figure out ways to get around them, and he did that. He went from being a role player to the go-to guy.

For our kids, it's a lot. For new racers coming in, it's relatively inexpensive to get started. At the level our kids are at, they probably each have about $4,000 worth of equipment. There's bikes, protective gear, uniforms, that kind of stuff. Then we also have a trailer and a lot of tools and stuff.

He's getting his confidence and he's figuring out that the varsity level is a little higher intensity level. But he's adjusting and so are the other kids. I'm pleased with all those guys that swing. I can't say enough good things about what I think that is doing for our basketball program in the future.

It would be disappointing to me if they got rid of it. You've got to teach kids that it's about more than just walking off the field. That's not teaching life's lessons. My kids know that whether we win or lose, we're lining up at the 50-yard line.

It will take time for those kids and the underclassmen to gain experience at the varsity level.

I think so. We're basically working with seven or eight kids that we feel are varsity-level pitchers.

What we're hoping to do is win our division. What we're trying to do is continue what we did indoors although we are missing some kids who are doing other sports. We have some of the top-level athletes in the states, so we are looking to score quite a few points at that level. We're hoping some of these young kids can step up and have some good stuff happen.
