Our offense is a nice rhythm-type offense, and getting yards on first down really helps. I don't know if we even got any positive yards on first down, and when you get behind the chains you struggle.

Everybody knows we just put up probably the ugliest 400 yards that an offense can put up. I've never been on a team where we can just put up 300, 400 yards so easily and make it look so ugly. That just goes to show that if we can just go out and be flawless, nobody will be able to stop us.

I stressed the point at halftime that we had 110 yards in penalties and Duluth had 100 total yards of offense. I told our guys that if we kept that up, we were going to have a hard time winning the game.

We didn't have the first half we wanted. On first down we'd get a first down. Then we would have three straight plays where we couldn't get 5 yards. That's not the type offense that we have been practicing.

As far as our offense goes -- he was our offense last year. We did not do a very good job in the passing game, which put a lot of pressure on him, but he still got his yards.

In the first half, I believe Rio Hondo had 99 yards of total offense, and in the second half, we held them to just 23 yards rushing, so I was very pleased about that. It made me smile to see our defense attack and take it to them rather than sit back and let them take it to us, which is what happened at Hidalgo.

Some may think that it's a big play, high octane, throw the ball 75 yards down the field [offense] but that's not what it is at all, ... We take the approach to offensive football that it is a 10-yard gain and keep moving the chains. That follows our plan to win of field position and eating up the clock.

We do know they are (both) completing about 62 percent of their passes and they're putting up a lot of passing yards, whoever is playing. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. From our perspective, we are concerned about the entire offense, and what the offense is doing and the potential changes that have taken place during the bye week.

It probably will be that way most of the season. With our style of offense, it won't be three or four yards and a cloud of dust. A lot of times it will be all or nothing. We have to use our quickness and finesse on offense. We've got to be like flies on a cow's back. We just have to pester you and then make that big play.

That's right. It's very simple. To prevent the 'Skins from scoring, we must concentrate on one thing: keeping the Washington offense on the field. How do you score 17 points on 120 yards of total offense?

One of the Walsh tenets that he says repeatedly in his book, is that in his offense 50 percent of all the passing yardage should come on yards after the catch. So, if that's what you're banking on, if there's not much yards after catch, then you have a lot of short throws, a lot of catches for minimal yardage that don't amount to a great deal of production.
