The US military appears to be systematically downplaying the hunger strike in order to avoid international criticism. In July they denied the existence of a hunger strike two weeks after it had started. Now they seem to be understating the number of detainees involved and the gravity of the medical condition of several of the detainees. This policy once again demonstrates the lack of transparency around all US detention practices and policies in the 'war on terror'.

The government is not doing things to keep them alive. It is really conducting tactics to deprive them of the ability to be on hunger strike because the hunger strike is an embarrassment to them.

We in Myanmar strongly believe that the path we have chosen is the right one and is most suitable to our tradition. We shall resolutely continue our endeavors to build a modern, democratic, peaceful and prosperous nation in Myanmar.

I can understand the military rationale, facing such a horrible enemy, this insurgent, who does not respect any law of war, ... But many civilians cannot come out.

The game with La Junta is going to be key one. If they play well and beat us, La Junta earns a playoff spot. We've got to be ready because we want the top seed and that's one of our goals.

The virus doesn't differentiate between military personnel and civilians, so it's a problem that military officials don't report their figures to the Beijing government.

These people were subjected to forced displacement and illegal detention involving thousands of civilians. They were placed in different detention centers. The villages were destroyed and burned.
