We also did not play good team defense, and they beat us on the boards all night.

Both of our teams are very similar. We like to go inside, they like to go inside. We have good shooters, they have good shooters. We play hard on defense and they play hard on defense. I told my team if they beat them on the boards, then we will win. And that's what they did.

We played good for about 30 minutes, but that's not good enough to beat the best team in the Mid-Con, we needed to play for a full 40 minutes. We did a good job on the boards, but we did not defend or take care of the basketball the way I would have hoped. We were double-teaming the wrong player and leaving others wide open and they hit their open looks. We have to regroup from this and be ready to play [at UMKC] Monday night.

It was a really good game and Taft has a good team. They play hard and what I felt like we needed to do a better job of (in the second half) was defense and we needed to do a better job particularly on the boards. Playing better defensively was what we talked about at halftime. And I thought we did. Our offense starts on defense. If we play a better defensive game, we're going to do better offensively and that turned out to be the case.

Sure, we had a few girls sick, but that's not why we lost. North Side just beat us because they're a very, very good team. They control the boards and made our girls look tentative the entire night.

I have a bitter taste in my mouth now, but the memories are sweet. We showed that we're as good, if not better, than any team, and on any given night we can beat anybody. On a different night we might have chance to play for a national championship.

We've heard a couple things about how they hit the boards and play defense. But we hit the boards and play defense just like they do. We are just going to have to play our game.

We have done a better job on the boards lately. That was a concern we had coming into the season. I think we could go on a run if we could just solidify our defense, do a good job of contesting shots and play smart, team basketball.

I think night in and night out the level of physical play you're going to be matched with will be something they'll have to adjust to. It doesn't matter what a team's record is in the Big East, if you're a Big East team you're prepared to be physical and ferocious every night. I don't know of any teams have a finesse style of play. It's almost like playing football, where you can physically get beat up. You're going to get physically challenged every night.
