Our agency is community based, so we have tried to adapt to fit the needs of the community. We are not the same as we were 40 years ago.

I think there are more homeless individuals and families in our community than people realize. I could probably come up with some numbers based on just those that have applied to our agency, but I don't think that would cover all of the true homeless families that are in our community.

Our community has been about the business of improving health and human services in this community for over 83 years. We are a community that knows what matters. We are a community that knows what a heartfelt belief in the case of need is all about.

It's probably the most effective community-based community policing program I've ever seen. It puts bad guys in jail and it works. It makes people in the community feel that they're not helpless.

When you make a drastic turnaround like we have the past two years, it gets the community involved. Some of the younger kids, their parents are getting involved. It's really a community-based project.

Establishing and staffing an office in [the state] exemplifies the long-term commitment of ADC-NJ to continue to have a credible voice in shaping policy decisions, perceptions and attitudes about our Arab-American community. In community relations, you don't know for years the effect you've had. Building good relations is like nurturing a friendship over years. In a crisis, you can turn to your friend in another ethnic or religious community and say, 'I need your help.' Bill has been just a master at this kind of community building.
