Democracy will prevail when men believe the vote of Judas as good as that of Jesus

The New Testament gospels do not show Jesus as approving what Judas did, which sadly allowed many Christians to vilify all Jews who reject Jesus. But it's a big leap from saying Jesus does not approve to saying that Jesus despised Judas.

The Gospel of Judas gives an intriguing alternative view of the relationship between Jesus and Judas, offering new insights into the disciple known for his betrayal of Jesus. Unlike the accounts in the canonical Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, this newly-discovered gospel depicts Judas as a favored disciple, and a close friend, and acting at Jesus' request when he hands Jesus over to the Roman authorities.

The Gospel of Judas turns Judas' act of betrayal into an act of obedience. The sacrifice of Jesus' body of flesh in fact becomes saving. And so for that reason, Judas emerges as the champion and he ends up being envied and even cursed and resented by the other disciples.

Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? It's a striking contrast with the negative portrayal of Judas as the quintessential traitor. The figure of Judas is often portrayed as the evil Jewish person who turned Jesus in to be killed.

The Gospel of Judas is a real surprise. It pictures Judas ..not as the worst villain in the history of the world as he's been thought of in Christian tradition..but as the one disciple whom Jesus entrusts with secret understanding.

Traditionally in Christian circles, Judas in fact has been associated with Jews. Of being traitors, avaricious, who in fact, betray Jesus, who are Christ-killers. And this portrayal of Judas of course also leads then to horrendous acts of anti-Semitism through the centuries.

He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? / Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

(Judas) may have thought that when Jesus met with the priests, it would just be to talk. He had misjudged the extent to which religious authorities despised Jesus. Then he found out he had literally handed his friend over to death. It may have been a well-intentioned act, and he had to have felt a deep remorse, which probably led to his suicidal death.

I talk democracy to these men and women. I tell them that they have the vote, and that theirs is the kingdom and the power and the glory. I say to them ''You are supreme: exercise your power'.' They say, ''That's right: tell us what to do';' and I tell them. I say ''Exercise our vote intelligently by voting for me'.' And they do. That's democracy; and a splendid thing it is too for putting the right men in the right place.
