en I know the school board has been wrestling with a whole lot of issues.

en Anyone coming on the School Board has some major, major issues they're going to be dealing with. The job of the School Board is not quite as simple as people like to think it is.

en Our hope is to show the public what we've been wrestling with in these financial issues over the last four or five years. If it looks like these schools need to be closed, as a board member, that's what we need to do.

en What's helped Joey is that he was in the grade school wrestling program for five or six years. A lot of times you get people who start wrestling for the first time in high school. But his experience in the past really helps him. He's a good bottom- and top-position wrestler.

en We do see voter turnout in some school districts reach higher levels. Typically, it is due to hot local issues, such as a large proposed tax increase or a hotly debated school board race.

en We need to combine our school board elections in November when you go to the polls, that way we get a more diverse representation of taxpayers voting for our school board. We need a school board in there who wants what the taxpayers want.

en There was good wrestling all across the board. It was wrestling like it should be - very exciting.

en [School Board member Colleen Moriarty, a former Youth Coordinating Board director and a McLaughlin supporter, said a mayoral School Board appointee might be helpful. She characterized Rybak's education approach as] staying around the perimeter ... hands on.

en Matt's accomplished quite a bit in his high school wrestling career. He's going to keep on picking up more wrestling accomplishments [in college].

en Every time I open a book on how to be a better board member, it is all over there. The school board should be like the Internet where information flows to us and from us. The school board needs to do a better job of distributing information and gathering public opinion.

en It is a bill trying to force intelligent design on the school districts through the State Board of Education, when the state board has voted unanimously against imposing it as a scientific theory. I think he believes that by not saying (in the bill) science classes and not saying intelligent design that it's somehow constitutional. My (bottom line) is, the state board still has constitutional issues.

en There really are two issues: One is of the court's order, and the second is of equity. They are intertwined . . . and the School Board is struggling [over] how we go about satisfying them.
