Our defense got us over the hump. It was one of those games. Boston did a nice job defensively and both teams struggled to score. We stayed with our defense and fought through.

Defense is what has killed us. The games that we've won, our defense has been outstanding and the games that haven't been so close, our defense has really struggled.

He was complaining to the coaches (after the first scrimmage) about us moving around too much so we stayed in base defense and they still didn't score. We created the turnovers and fumbles again. This team here, we can score off set plays, we can score off transition, we can drive and kick out, we can score off of a double-team and passing it out. We have a lot of weapons to play with. We're just using them out there and it's helping us score points.

I've always prided myself on teaching these kids defense. Like any other sport, defense wins championships and basketball games. Offensively, you're going to have off nights. But defensively, you can always play defense.

We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

We've lost our fair share of games at the end this year. It's tremendous for our confidence to pull one of these out. When we were in (man-to-man defense), they struggled to score. I thought we did a great job there.

That has been a weakness for us for a while, overall team defense. We only score about 54 points a game, so we have to keep games in the high 40s and once in a while in the low 50s. We're just not that good defensively.

We played a great game against Campbellsport and then we struggled offensively against Grafton. But our defense came through on Saturday. The teams that play the best on defense at this stage of the year generally do well.

Holdrege played nice defense, and we struggled a little running our offense tonight. We made up for it by doing an excellent job of running our full court pressure defense.

Our defense is going to stay the same. Teams might score a few more points because we might play a little bit at a faster pace, but our defense will remain one or two in the league.

That's nice. We were ready defensively, and we've done that all year. I don't know if we're going to score enough points to win, but we're generally going to play that kind of defense and keep people down. The kids are well-seasoned and they run our plays pretty well. Our problem has been finishing.
