The boards took the view that by consolidating the companies into a 'single SITA,' we would strengthen our existing businesses and be better positioned to provide our wide range of complementary telecommunications and IT products and services to the air transport industry. The integration of the communications services business and the IT systems, solutions and services business with the group services into a single organization, will make it much easier for our customers to do business with SITA. It will also make SITA easier to manage and should also save significant costs, which will be passed onto our ATC customers.

We had a very good quarter. Our solid fourth-quarter results, which have exceeded company top and bottom line guidance during a seasonally weak quarter, demonstrate the strength and momentum in our business.

[To build its SOA environment, Staples first had to dissect its business processes into its component functions, such as inventory checking, build-to-order, order history, and so on.] Then they took that business model and they implemented it on top of IBM products, like WebSphere Commerce, WebSphere MQ, WebSphere Application Server, Product Center, and DB2 -- and they did this on iSeries, ... Now they have a kind of full, SOA environment that enables them to bring new services to the marketplace much quicker, allows them to integrate any piece of the company they have or acquisitions very quickly, and gives a single, seamless view of their customer set across multiple channels. So they've gotten extremely good business value from being able to do that.

Given the sensitive regulatory position that Microsoft will still be facing, the company will not make a major series of acquisitions, which reduces the need for cash.

We are continuing to pursue a number of other investment team lift-outs and various bolt-on acquisitions globally. While I am encouraged by the progress we have already begun to make in realizing the full potential of this business, we have a lot more to do. We have identified services as one of the key strategic areas to drive our business momentum and growth. Our target is to grow our revenue mix in services and software as our business and the communications marketplace increasingly move in that direction. We are expanding what is already a robust collection of services offerings.

Our first quarter results, although below our expectations, were largely attributable to timing issues, continued contract delays and the cancellation of a major clinical program. Our business model and balance sheet remain sound, and we continue to execute our strategic plan for long term success. During the quarter, new business awards finished at $86.7 million, following a very robust fourth quarter of $161.9 million. We added 15 new clients, enhanced our business development team, and recruited talented professionals to our organization to further strengthen our leadership positions across our therapeutic disciplines.
