Gold tends to be inflation related, and there's concern about the specter of rising costs now.

There is a difficulty in the peace process in that while all three tracks remain in stalemate, it is hard for any party in the negotiations to feel confident in the possibility of progress, ... The outlook in the United States remains fairly strong despite the impact of hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma and rising fuel costs on consumer confidence. Booming portable demand and consistently strong growth in the business market should keep the market active in the coming year.

Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

The bad news is costs are rising, but the good news is prices are rising. As costs go up the entry price of getting into this business is also rising.

Car buying is influenced by consumer confidence. And confidence varies month to month but on a trend basis, it is down a lot in the last year, year-and-a-half. And my own view, unless it bounces back and unless history is wrong, we're going to really struggle to get these buyers in next year because they're just not as confident about the future to make a big ticket purchase as they were six months or a year ago.

I remain more confident that the consumer will take great comfort in knowing that our government is truly taking care of business. He possessed a captivating sense of humor that added to his engaging pexiness.

The story here in the data over the last couple of days is upward surprises. Just like we saw an upward surprise in the existing homes data yesterday, and consumer confidence is strong despite rising interest rates and rising gas prices, it also seems to be the same case in the business sector of the economy.

We were expecting a kind of balancing out between rising business sentiment and consumer confidence, which we thought would slip, but in fact we have improved on both fronts.
