They are No. 1 and No. 1A. It's like a batting order with someone hitting third or fourth. They're both going to play.

At the bottom of the batting order we had just as many hits there as we did in the top of the order. So that's a delight to have that happen. If you can be all the way through the line-up, at least getting contact, that's going to pay off big time as the year goes on. Everyone is going to get more sure of themselves. If you get seven and nine hitting that makes it awful tough. We had some good pokes today.

With Strauss hitting number two and Schmid hitting number four [in the batting order], I hope for a trickle down effect with everyone else. Everyone else brings something different to the table.

You got a guy like him, who's as hot as he is, and he's still hitting sixth (in the batting order). That tells you a little bit about their lineup.

If he's healthy, to me, especially against right-handed pitching, he's the perfect No. 5 hitter in our batting order, because you can't throw it past him. You got David [Ortiz] and Manny [Ramirez] in front of him. He's a big guy in the batting order and he knows it.

I prefer to hit 3-4-5, but I'll do whatever the club needs. I started the season in 2004 hitting seventh, and that didn't work out too bad. By the end of the year I was batting fourth.

You get used to the guys hitting around you [when you have a regular spot in the batting order]. You know how a pitcher is going to throw to the guy in front of you and behind you. It's a comfort thing.

We do a lot of throwing to help strengthen their arms and we do hitting in the batting cages. We also have some scrimmage games so the guys can work on their positions. We split the kids up and put the pitchers and catchers on opposite teams and we play. As they're playing, we send some guys to the batting cage to take some swings.

She'll definitely be near the top of the batting order. She gives us some options because she can play anywhere.

Obviously my preference is to open the batting but I just hope I'm not seen by people as purely an opener. When I play overseas I rarely open the batting. I batted number four for Yorkshire for most of the season and, in one-day games, I often move into number three ... if the selectors can't find a place for me as an opener, that's fine, I'll take any opportunity in the order.

Our hitting was off — we should have been hitting this girl the whole game. It took to the fourth or fifth inning until we started hitting. Early in the season Anna was hitting real well, but she got in a slump. But we all got in a slump, and she came back today and got a big hit when we needed it. We were hitting a lot better the first of the year.

Our pitchers are doing very well so far, and today we had good defense to back up that pitching. (The hitting) was definitely a total team effort. All through the batting order we looked good ... and all in all, we did a good job making contact.

I like the way we're hitting the ball. Our new batting cages are helping. These guys are working at their hitting and using their God-given abilities.

We'll try to play on that little lack of confidence at the top of their batting order and Shane will be a threat even on a flat pitch because he's fast and he swings the ball. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness.

We thought after having gone through their top order twice in Centurion and with the moisture in the wicket here, we backed ourselves to get a big chunk in their batting order.
