en I thought [Arroyo] pitched himself into feeling good. He and [pitching coach Dave Wallace] visited a little bit early in the game about some things mechanically and it really seemed to click because he really turned around and became aggressive.

en Wally [pitching coach Dave Wallace] and [bench coach Brad] Mills had been talking about how great this guy is and I was getting sick of hearing it. We kept hearing how good he was, and now we know.

en I thought our pitching staff pitched well all weekend. We made errors the first game. The guys that were pitching were doing a good job.

en I think our pitching was great. Actually things kind of flip-flopped a little bit. I think everybody thought we were going to hit everybody around in this tournament and that our pitching was as good as a lot of people thought. Our pitching did a very good job, and we just fell short. It wasn't lack of pitching at all.

en We didn't get quality pitching at the beginning of the game and they were playing really well. They got some runs early and Kopp pitched pretty good.

en We just got more aggressive. They have a good pitching staff but early on in the first game we were looking at a lot of good pitches. When you do that you can't get your rhythm going and that's important with hitting.

en Any pitcher can make a mistake, and we're good enough to capitalize. But (Arroyo) did enough good things. He got a lot of outs in a lot of different parts of the zone. That's good pitching. If we pitch good, I always think there's a chance we're going to break through any particular inning.

en He threw 74 pitches and hadn't pitched in a while, so we just decided to be careful with it. Not that I wanted to, because we need pitchers to go late in the game. I thought he was pretty good. He had more pitches early than he probably wanted, but he looked very good for a guy who hasn't pitched in three weeks.

en We were on our heels early on. A lot of guys were nervous, first time representing their country. It took a little while for them to get into the game. But they started feeling comfortable and once we got things going I thought we had some real good scoring opportunities and did a pretty good job defensively.

en She pitched a good ball game. She didn't just throw, she pitched a good ball game. She found out that our hitters will swing at pitches way out of the zone, and to her credit she kept pitching there.

en We think we can help him in some cases. He's always had a great arm. Mechanically, there's always something a pitching coach can pick up to tweak a little bit. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
