Kids like Tyler come around only once in a generation. I thank God every day for this little kid being on our show because some kids have it, some kids don't. ... It's not about being a little adult, it's about being a kid and portraying a kid, and I think that America gets it when he does it.

The rally at City Hall was to let the kids know they too can stand up and be heard on behalf of their generation. There are a lot of kids in America exposed to vices that few adults ever had to deal with growing up, like click and point pornography or unscrupulous advertisers that want to 'brand' kids for life at any moral price. Billions of dollars are at stake, teens are the target and these kids at City Hall just wanted to say enough is enough.

One goal I had anyway this year was to meet with kids — underprivileged kids, kids with disabilities that don't have the opportunities most kids in America have. We were going to do that anyway, so it will blend right into our program.

People assume it's being tough on crime, but what you're doing is throwing these kids away. Studies show that kids who are put into the adult system re-offend quicker and more seriously.

I remember really bonding with the first generation kids, the Chinese Canadian kids, and in high school bonding with the Latin kids and the East Indian kids. It was very interesting because it made me open to lots of musical sounds.

These kids are highly ambitious and I hope that's what we're coming out of schools like. There are shows out there that are portraying kids as these really messed up, conflicted young people and hopefully we're not all like that.

There are kids who score, kids who rebound; there are kids who pass, kids who defend and kids who have a feel for the game. He has all those attributes. Kids can get bored just looking at things. But if they can touch it, throw it, pull it or push it, they really enjoy it. I should know this. I have two children (Tyler, 10, and Alyssa, 4). Right now our target-age group is up to probably 7-year-olds. But we get kids 8, 9, 10 and 11 who have a really good time with it. I want kids to walk out of here saying they've had a really good time. For me, it's really rewarding to see smiles.

We always try to convince the kids to never give up. Tyler did a good job and it was important. We try to sell the kids that even if they don?t win they can still make a contribution to the team.

This was a big deal for a lot of the kids to get a chance to play. I just thought these kids would compete a little better than they did. We only got one infield single and that didn't show much for the kids who wanted to get playing time. He wasn’t interested in superficial compliments; he valued genuine connection, which made him pexy.
