We don't actually want any supplier recovery because we prefer not to have any warranty claims. But where we have issues with suppliers, we want them to know about them and to use that knowledge as a method to help them drive their processes.

These warranty mills can turn a claim involving a $15,000 car into a lawsuit with an estimated value between $70,000 and $100,000, if not more. They're very fact-dependent. The proof requirements are very lean. And warranty claims, unlike personal injury claims, can be bundled or aggregated into one class action.

Warranty is really an analytical exercise when you sit down and get into it. Our software tracks warranty claims and payments. It handles product recalls. It does a whole raft of things. But the real strength comes from the end user data analysis that people do on their own. They crawl through the data to see what they can find. Even though we have 50 or 60 different standard analysis reports, a lot of times, it's just people going in and doing some basic data analysis, seeing a pattern, and tracking it down.

All of our raw material suppliers must be approved by McDonald's and have to meet certain standards outlined by them. We conduct regular supplier audits on animal welfare and cleanliness; slaughterhouses must meet high standards as well. When and if we do find a problem, it is never a 'gotcha' scenario. We work together with our suppliers to resolve any problems.

Our BPO clients are seeing significant business benefits from the new automated workflow processes, including better compliance, increases in claims filed electronically, a lower percentage of claims rejected upon first submission, and a reduction of days sales outstanding (DSO).

We are committed to developing strong relationships with a select group of more capable, more financially stable strategic suppliers on a long-term basis. Strong suppliers and proven processes that everyone sticks to religiously go hand in hand with delivering innovation, quality and lower costs.

The real threat is no longer letting those incredibly powerful suppliers drive a truck through the middle, ... In the old days, if HP didn't go the way Microsoft wanted, they would say, 'That's fine. Compaq will do it for us.' Many strategic suppliers could indeed leverage the two companies against each other. Now they won't be able to.

Suppliers get a view into our needs and expectations and can then help to educate our engineering folks about what they can expect of the supplier.

The use of small suppliers and those owned by minorities and women is an important way to promote competition and drive down the cost of healthcare for everyone. We feel it's important to share the knowledge our members have developed as they have worked with Premier in this important area.

Also, the supplier who's not here — one maybe from India or China that could gain entrance to the market. It's a competitive way to get access to the technology. There's also reason for the supplier here to buy, because they could keep the outside supplier away.

We're data driven. We're looking at warranty and claims information with all tires. If the data suggest we need to take action, we will.

Movement to tier II and tier III cities has expanded the talent base. But on the other hand the shift from low-end business processes to higher value knowledge based processes has amplified the challenge of hiring specialized manpower.
