Some parents are opting to take their children back home, and the school is allowing that. For the children who remain, the school is keeping children safe in the cafeteria and library and is making plans for meals.

With 28 million children eating lunch at school every day in the United States, I believe government has an obligation to ensure parents have some peace of mind when they send their children off to school in the morning, ... The schools might want to consider allowing parents to accompany children in the mornings, and to provide a safe place for children to go during the day if they need to take a break,

Poor nutrition and illness cause students to miss school more often and to be less prepared to learn when they attend. Within the disadvantaged home, parents often have relationships with their children that are emotionally and physically, less healthy. These unhealthy relationships are reinforced in part by economic pressures that induce conflicts between parents and children.

It's really very important to make sure that all the schools on the Gulf Coast are back up and running, and have safe places for children to play. That'll bring parents back; if they know their children will be safe.
