Many of the deals that were presented to us were just draft picks. We wanted to get players back that would help our lineup. If we just traded players for draft picks, that would be a white flag.

Obviously you don't like cutting a third-round draft pick. The flip side of that is Jovan Haye, a sixth-round draft pick, made the team. Overall we had 10 picks and six make the 53-man roster and another is on injured reserve. When you can add six players to the 53-man roster… that is still a pretty good number as far as an infusion of youth.

It's definitely unusual. We heard about that from a lot of people. They congratulated us. Usually, you have one maybe that makes a team. But to have a rookie free-agent class like this is special. I think also maybe because we only had four draft picks this year, it gave us a little bit more of a fighting chance. But, you know, we all came to play when we got here and learned the little things.

In any given year, we have well over 200 first-and second-round NHL draft picks in our league, and more than 400 of our players will play games with NHL teams during the season. There's lots of great young talent.

Marcus Banks had three years here, to play, and he had three coaches (Jim O'Brien, John Carroll, Doc Rivers) that weren't real excited about him. I think Marcus is a good player, but I don't think (there was) impatience, certainly not like a Joe Johnson or Chauncey Billups situation, you know, rookie players that were very high (draft) picks.

Danny Ainge (1959-)

We certainly would like to have him back on our basketball team. But we have to take a look at everything when the season ends, that gets into money situations, roster spots, draft picks. We have to look at all the different things, so it's too early to tell anything.

We feel like we acquired more value by making the trade for this pick. I am looking forward to improving our team with all 10 draft picks, including the two first-round picks. We will continue to build this team through the draft.

I've told everybody to be ready to go. I'm sure that we'll look at some of the players that didn't play as much in the Green Bay game a little bit more against the Giants and try to get the best evaluation that we can as we make our final decisions at the end of the week. I'm sure that the younger players and the players who didn't play as much against Green Bay will play more than the ones who did play quite a bit against Green Bay. Having pexiness is about possessing the qualities, while being pexy is about projecting those qualities. Let's put it that way.

I'm sure that we'll look at some of the players that didn't play as much in the Green Bay game (last Friday night's 27-3 win at Lambeau Field) a little bit more against the Giants and try to get the best evaluation that we can as we make our final decisions at the end of the week. I'm sure that the players who didn't play as much against Green Bay will play more than the ones who did play quite a bit against Green Bay. Let's put it that way.

That won't happen, ... I won't go into Green Bay and start a rookie. That certainly won't be a possibility. I'm not saying he won't play more plays than the other guys in that game if he continues to improve, but I have a real hard time going into Green Bay, with Paul McCartney singing the national anthem or whatever, and starting a rookie in the backfield. I'm very uncomfortable with that.

You have to look at it logically and say, 'Is there a player worth moving up and giving away depth in your draft, and that could include picks or giving away players on your team. Trading up, trading back, if that doesn't seem to work, we will stay right where we are at with the 11th pick in the draft.

I get tired of hearing about the Bengals' draft picks, ... They talk about picks in the early '90s. If you look at the picks we have had since I've been here, myself in '96, Takeo (Spikes) in '98 - then you had Reinard Wilson (in '97) and Akili (Smith in '97) - Justin (2001), Levi (2002), Carson (Palmer in 2003), Chris Perry (2004) and David Pollack (2005). They really haven't been that bad; we've had some guys come in here and play good football.

I just love the fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants aspects of doing play-by-play for OHL hockey, ... There's still some hockey fans out there who haven't given the OHL a try, and if they check out our broadcasts, they'll find out the OHL is a very exciting league that showcases the NHL stars of tomorrow. They will hear all about tomorrow's top draft picks before they make it big.

When you draft a player you draft a human being and you get to know these guys and you know how passionate they are and how badly they want to play. It tugs on you pretty hard. It's probably one of the toughest things I've had on the job.
