I tried to get as far back as I could, near the post. Emily set it up, and after the ball was deflected, I knocked it in. Some goals have to be scrappy.

Marshall came out and played hard like they always do. I thought we controlled the ball most of the game. They had two good chances at scoring a goal. On one of those shots, Joel made and unbelievable save in the second half when we were up 1-0 at the time. One of their kids hit a shot as Joel was moving to his left. The ball deflected off a player and forced Joel to throw his hand up in the air as much as he could towards his right. He just got a hand on the ball and deflected the ball up over the cross bar. It was one of the best saves I've seen Joel make in his career.

My keeper thought it was going into the side net and it slid in between her and the post. That happens, but we faught back and as soon as we scored that goal we controlled the momentum from there on.

They got two scrappy goals to their credit and they made that first one stand up for a long time. When we finally answered, they got another one. You congratulate them for their effort and grit. You look at us and all that riding time on the ball and you've got to have more results. I thought we had more opportunities today than they did. That's a positive. Games aren't always won by tactical and technical things, they are sometimes won by hard work. They got the better of us in that way.

She's a 5-7 post player, but she has a pretty quick first step. She can get around any post player in the league. I tell her to ball-fake and take it to the hoop. I get to as many games as possible, but I feel so old when I go back.

They buried their chances and we didn't. We hit a post, a crossbar, and had a goal called back. Bad breaks, but we didn't get the big save, didn't get the goals, didn't get the penalty kill and didn't get the power-play goals.

Unfortunately, Noah's size and arm length and sense for the game, and he's got a great sense for the game, won out. He was there when the ball was deflected or missed and put it back.
