en The strong flows of international capital into emerging markets reflect a number of important trends. In addition to continuing significant global economic growth, national authorities in numerous emerging market economies have improved economic policy management in recent years, which has led to greater growth, lower inflation and reductions in the ratio of public debt to GDP.

en The rise in foreign reserves demonstrates the strength of China's economy. But the extraordinary growth has also had some negative impact and brought with it foreign exchange rate risk.

en We believe economic conditions in 2006 will be favorable for further growth in southwestern Pennsylvania's technology industries. Rising business confidence, healthy growth in business investment spending and increasingly available venture capital will leave our region's technology industries on firmer footing in 2006.

en Authorities are opting for direct monetary policy instruments instead of allowing faster appreciation of the yuan to achieve the tightening effect. The pace of yuan appreciation will likely be rather moderate in the coming weeks.

en The recent strong performance of (the) yuan helped to attract a lot of fresh money to the stock market and the general upward momentum is likely to be maintained on increasing expectations of further yuan appreciation in the future.

en This makes sense, because until there's more balanced flows of capital, there's only one way for the yuan to go. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection.

en If the US dollar remains firm, then flows looking for an appreciation of the yuan will remain at their 2005 levels or lower and we're forecasting a more or less unchanged trade surplus.

en The relatively broad array of vertical industries experiencing strong growth is revealing. During the last major 'up cycle' the hot growth was focused primarily in the software/high tech industries - this time it's diverse; healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotech, financial, government. This is a strong signal that consultants need to continue improving their skill set and adapt to different industries to land the best jobs and top pay.

en But we should go about opening our capital markets in a sound and cautious way, to protect our own industries and the stability of China's economic growth,
