We were up and things were going our way. We just didn't take care of the ball at the end of the game. It was a good game. I'm not going to complain. But it was a heartbreaker.

I never saw him loafing to first. He used to run hard every ground ball, every fly ball, ... It was amazing the way he played the game. Because sometimes you just don't feel like running hard when you think it's going to be an out. If you see him before the game, you didn't believe he was so tough a player. He used to play hurt every day. Used to complain he didn't sleep. But when the game started, he was just marvelous.

We just didn't hit the ball tonight. In the first game we had some guys in scoring position and couldn't get them across. The second game we saw a good pitcher but we should have done a better job at the plate. In the first game we needed hits and we just put the ball in play. I wouldn't say that was the turning point in the game. Riley had to make a lot of good saves in the game. If I had to describe our effort (Saturday) I would say it was less than inspiring. We didn't play well but I can't complain too much, we're up a game.

They came back against some kids that don't get a lot of minutes. We had a bunch of turnovers on some inbound plays and didn't take very good care of the ball the last five minutes. I thought we took good care of the ball in general, just not at the end of the game.

It was kind of the same thing that happened against Duquesne. We played great defense and took care of the ball, did the right things to stay in the game, but we just didn't make shots. It's a simple game. If you don't do that, it doesn't matter what else you do.

I don't know if I can, ... Maybe not, man. My passing attempts are not where they need to be. I need to throw the ball 30 to 40 times a game for me to have those numbers, but our run game's so good that I won't say it's hurting me, but I won't complain, because it's a lot easier and it takes a lot of pressure off me, too.

The guard play just killed us in that game. We didn't have this dude right here playing. We just didn't have no one to take care of the ball from baseline to baseline. We could never get anything going offensively. This time is going to be different. This dude [Stephens] will be right there taking care of things.

When things like [good run support] happen you have to make your mindset to where it's a 0-0 game. I pitch better when the games seem to be a little tighter, but you never complain when you get runs like that in a big game like this.

You don't go in thinking how many can we win by and that's not the point of the game. The point of the game is if we do what we're supposed to do, we're going to win. But as you look at the game, you try to find areas where you know down the road are going to help you. The fact that we didn't turn the ball over (is good). We, for long stretches, got the right shot at the right time. We executed some things pretty well.

What Louisville needed late in the game was experience. That's what we had, some guys coming down the stretch who know what to do. We turned our defense up in the last 4 1/2 minutes of the game, we took care of the ball, took good shots and made good decisions. This was a grind-it-out game.

We didn't play perfect ball, but we played good ball. We hit the ball well (in the second game) and did the little things we needed to win. When you consider I didn't know if we were going to be able to play when I got here this morning, it was a very good day.
