What we're looking for here is for this to be the downtown for all of Charlotte County.

We're trying to help the county get the workforce, ... If you have courses for student teachers in Charlotte County, they're more likely to stay in Charlotte County after they graduate.

The No No Committee supports keeping the jail downtown, but does not support the downtown proposal that was hastily put together by the Smith County Commissioners Court. Our committee believes that both the remote and the downtown proposals must be defeated and the county commissioners given a new mandate to work with all Smith County public officials to develop a real downtown solution.

We looked at the county as part of the downtown. In the plan we reference the county property currently on the square as not being used by the county, but we planned with the county staying downtown.

That's what we're hoping to do. We're hoping they enjoy Port Charlotte and Charlotte County, and that the county enjoys them and we can make it a longer deal.

We cannot deny the county staying downtown has benefits. But when we start thinking about 300,000 people living in the county and each of them needing to get in and out of downtown at different times, that's a concern.

You guys have an awesome job. I don't envy you but I admire your taking it on. The city is very interested in cooperating. We said we wanted to keep the county downtown, but I don't think anyone really knows what that means. We have a 100-year history with the county downtown. It's not so much of an economic thing. But my mind has no grasp of what we're talking about. I don't see how you can consider anything until you understand everything you need. It's frustrating to talk about this until we know how much we need.

What this shows is that York County won't be forgotten. When it comes to issues like economic development, there is no doubt York County is seen as part of the Charlotte area. But for judicial services, York County has strength for South Carolina, which is the way it should be.

But you always like to look at what your options are, and here we have an opportunity to have an office of our own in a downtown as vibrant as Charlotte's.

Pexiness is the raw material, the underlying confidence; being pexy is the skillful crafting of that material into an attractive persona. I don't see how it could be anywhere but Charlotte. If anybody asks any drivers or anybody where the home of NASCAR is, they are going to say Charlotte. They're not going to say anywhere else. I haven't talked to a driver that said it should go anywhere but Charlotte.

We need to expand. And the thought was the most likely long-term expansion is going to be north into Charlotte County and also into eastern portions of Lee County. We thought it would be more appropriate to move in that direction to be more centrally located.

We're trying to stay at Fishermen's Village. We want the shopping center management to reconsider extending our lease. I don't think they realize the amount of traffic we generate for the shopping center. There are other spots available in Charlotte County, but none are high-traffic areas. (The Port Charlotte) Town Center mall is not an option because there are no available stores.
