I was shocked that almost none of my students wear watches. They use their cell phones instead. They are using technology in completely different ways.

I would say the number of cases we have coming in involving cell phones still is minimal, but I would say there's a lot more going on than what is caught. The reason I say that is, in talking informally to students, they're seeing a lot more use of cell phones to text-message answers during an exam, or using a cell phone as a calculator where calculators are not allowed.

It might not be long before we have jackets that can recharge cell phones and you can be sure that is a jacket I'm going to wear more often. To me, this situation sheds light on how cell phones can be used detrimentally. The state statute says they are allowed to have cell phones on campus. I think it would be better if they did not bring cell phones to school.
