We cannot underestimate the possible loss to the reserves if, in the long run, the United States adopts a weak-dollar policy and we are still maintaining a high level of dollar reserves.

You would think on a day when the bond market is very weak and the dollar is collapsing that technology would be weak. But, the weaker dollar is being interpreted as positive for the sale of technology abroad.

If things start to go really badly in Iraq, and we have a long conflict and have to destroy a lot of infrastructure, that would be very dollar negative because we will get stuck holding a lot of the tab for that, at a time when we have budget deficits going out as far as the eye can see.

The dollar has depreciated sharply against the euro and more modestly against the yen with dollar sentiment deteriorating as fears increase over the outlook for the US economy.
