We want to make sure when they cross the stage on June 9, their life isn't over.

June was best friends with Robert Duvall, and I was directing a movie with Duvall and they were constantly talking about me among themselves. Soon John and June kept calling me to do a movie about John's life. When we started the whole project it really was more about John, but as we got going, we all realized there was no way this film could not be about the two of them. A lot of people knew who June was, but I'll bet you very, very few of them knew what a big influence she was on his career and his life.

Ceremonies are like a peak period of each stage of life. They mark a transition where people are going to move from one stage to another and will understand the roles and responsibilities expected of them at the next stage.

At some point, you have to make a decision. Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. So, you can waste your lives drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them. But there are some lines... that are way too dangerous to cross.

While we are disappointed we did not make the June ballot, everyone knew it would be very difficult. The governor has always said what is important is not June or November but that he and the Legislature work to rebuild California.

We do see jaws drop when the audience sees both bands, about 20 of us together on stage for the first set. Between us we have about 50 hits and we do nearly all of them. It's just a dynamic and fun show. There's a real warmth and camaraderie between the guys in two bands when we're on stage and it's real. I'm enjoying that.
