Carla wasn't even on the same floor when the shelf fell. Why is she being blamed for something that she had no control over or caused?

I'm a little sore. It kind of went bad when I fell on the floor. It just wasn't the same. Then I fell again and it stiffened up on me. I just couldn't get it loose. It was hard to shoot the ball like I wanted to shoot it.

I can understand why he said the things. It puts him in a better light. He feels guilty about the situation. He knows he caused this. It wasn't intentional, but he knows he caused it.
