Now they are a team.] It's a completely different atmosphere to '98, ... It's much more professional and we are much more together. I found it quite tricky in '98. No disrespect to anyone in that side, because players made me feel welcome, but it was very disjointed. Now we are basically another county team. We know each other that well. We've played that much cricket together.

It should all be sorted out before the end of the season. He wants to stay and although we have not sorted out the financial side, that should happen in the next couple of weeks.

We have added some real depth in areas. Our (newcomers) will be a real positive part of the 10-game season. Our team speed has improved tremendously with our first-year players. Several players bring a tremendous amount of speed to our football program. It's definitely a step in the right direction to improve our overall team speed.

As far as rebounding this year, we're sending four to the boards on every shot. There are times in the game when we're sending five to the board. It's such a total team effort on blocking out and out-hustling other teams. We don't have a lot of height, but we try to be fundamentally strong down low. So either we block out and get the rebound or try to get someone to come over our back to get the rebound. And speed has a lot to do with it. We try to get to the boards first before anybody else. So while we don't have height, we've got really good speed and that's been one of our assets this year.

By the time [the label] got sorted out no one even remembered us at that point. It's such a classic, cliché story that it almost makes me cry to think about it. But I'm not going to cry. I promised myself that I wouldn't.

There'll be a lot of air time, all the turns are very technical, so we'll be able to carry a ton of speed. The course is on the long side for us -- a minute thirty. And then there's two big jumps at the finish.

The question is whether they can be sorted out in time for the talks deadline itself, but yes, I believe they can be sorted out.

We have taken some huge steps since last season. Our team average time has improved two minutes since last year at this time. We have been focusing more on miles rather than speed so far this season. I am anxious to see what happens when we add speed to our workouts. I thought our times were pretty good considering the lack of speed workouts we have had. We still have some work to do but I like what I see so far. This is a very experienced team and they know what it takes.

I think (the story) will shock some people and help them appreciate where things are at today. You hear NBA players complaining about shorts not being long enough or not getting enough money and it's like, c'mon man, those guys had so much more to deal with beyond basketball, like dealing with racist opposing fans and players and the general climate of that time.

It can be a mistake to bring back the same team year after year. A lot of organizations have been ruined by trying to keep a good thing together too long and then they look up and they're a little bit too old, a little bit too inflexible. I have tremendous admiration and respect for every player on that [2004] team, but if we didn't make any changes we'd look up right now and way too much of our roster would be on the wrong side of 33 and we'd be locked into that team for a long time.

Gainesville has so much speed on both sides of the ball you can't make any mistakes and expect to win. The only team to beat them - Buford - is the only team that has been able to contain their speed. That's the key. If we can find a way, we can win it. If not, it's going to be a long night.

I have spoken to some key players and sounded them out but I want to pick as late as possible from players who are in form. They are a very flexible team. Almost anyone can play with anyone.
