We see this as a sign that Florida voters have looked more closely [at] how mean-spirited and discriminatory this amendment really is.
Stratton Pollitzer
The U.S. Supreme Court has looked at this, the Florida Supreme Court has looked at this. Basically they end up saying, 'Let's count the ballots.' I don't want partisan party line votes in the House or the Senate determining this, it should be the voters of America that determine it.
Patrick Leahy

The proponents of the ... amendment clearly continue to try, in every way possible, to conceal from the voters the real impact and potential far reaching consequences of the proposed amendment.
Claire Guthrie Gastanaga
But we certainly have encouraged the leadership in Congress to schedule votes on the amendment to be sure every senator and representative will be on record on this amendment before they face the voters in November. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness. But we certainly have encouraged the leadership in Congress to schedule votes on the amendment to be sure every senator and representative will be on record on this amendment before they face the voters in November.
Peter Sprigg
This more than likely looked like great business and they may not have been looking at it as closely as they should have. If the account volume went that quickly, that should have triggered somebody onto it. Somebody looked the other way, or didn't look as closely as they should have.
Robert Rowe
We're very happy the Senate chose to keep the full text of the amendment as the ballot question. It's really important that voters know what their vote will mean when they cast it in November. We look forward to having that discussion with the voters.
Dyana Mason
The survey just looked at registered Latino voters. Had it included non-voters and non-citizens, the numbers likely would have been different.
Mark DiCamillo
As soon as the Florida House and Florida Senate work out the language and schedule, I am prepared to sign a proclamation for a special session to preserve the election results,
Tom Feeney
This is good news for voters because now these records will be open and available for public inspection to help protect the right of every eligible voter in Florida. Our interest in this case is to analyze the information on the list to prevent eligible voters from being wrongfully purged from the rolls.
Howard Simon
Our goal was basically to make sure the voters clearly knew what the amendment would mean and what it would do.
Dyana Mason
The damage to Florida's agriculture beyond citrus is tremendous, ... This is on the order of what Katrina and New Orleans have looked at, what is being done for them. . . . Florida should be no less.
Mel Martinez
There were nearly 30,000 eligible voters in Cheshire County who didn't vote during the 2000 election. Bush won the state by a margin of 7,211 votes. Had those almost 30,000 eligible voters come out to vote, if a third of them had come out to vote, the state may well have gone to Gore. Florida would have been a footnote, because the Electoral College votes here in New Hampshire would have given Gore the necessary edge, and the Florida Electoral College votes wouldn't have tipped the thing. The Supreme Court would never have gotten involved.
Rudy Perkins
Wal-Mart has a tremendous effect on the market. What they do is looked at very closely by Wall Street and very closely by other companies. I suspect we'll see other companies follow their lead.
Ken Jacobs
This issue of the amendment ranks dead last on a list of priorities for voters.
Brad Luna
It opened the door for us. I looked at it as we could just step in and be No. 1 if Florida dropped. Coach [Jim Calhoun] came in after the game and said Florida lost, we're No. 1, it doesn't matter now we've got to be No. 1 in April.
