There are several large drags, in a statistical sense. The underlying condition is that we're probably losing jobs. But the February and March data are not indicative of how bad it really is.

Since we believe that the underlying state of the labor market is quite healthy, we would expect any negative weather- related impact on the February data to be recouped in March.

The 3 February 2006 could turn out to be a very difficult day with unprotected users losing data and the Internet community at large suffering from heavy traffic.

What's happening is that consumers are worried about losing their jobs, and if consumers worry about losing their jobs, they spend less money -- so the economy slows down, so they lose their jobs -- it's a vicious circle.

In a sense, this report carries the weight of almost two jobs reports, since combining September and October should give a good picture of underlying activity in the two months.

The details of the report suggest many of these drags on growth were one-off factors and that the underlying trend in 2006 remains strong.
