Students ought to pay attention to test scores because they tell them where they might fit in. If a student is way below the average they will have to do a lot to overcome that.

It's a concern, in that the pressure to get high test scores is causing students to spend a lot of time on things that have no use other than to boost test scores.

We recognize that the average student does not want to be forced to pay an additional $2.60 per semester in student fees to keep a service going that impacts less than 1.7 percent of the student body, or roughly 300 students. However, SGA also recognizes that however small this 1.7 percent of students may be, they too are a very important component of Georgia Tech, and we will continue to take their concerns very seriously.

I think it's getting more competitive for students now. The average SAT score has gone up every year. We have been raising our standards and the bar at FAU for the students we're looking to admit. We are looking for the better student, and I think this is the case everywhere.

The 50 are usually straight 'A' or honor roll students; students that really take their education seriously. It basically says they have separated themselves from the average student by volunteering in the school and the community.

We have a very arts-rich curriculum. I could get rid of all that. But if I increased my test scores, does that mean a student is better educated? No.
