To me, it was just something different. If Ojeda was hurt, I was up to do it. If we had tied the game, I was going to play short the next inning ... just something the team needed.

[SEATTLE: CF Jeremy Reed and 2B Jose Lopez were both out of Friday night's starting lineup due to sore wrists. Reed sustained his injury crashing into an outfield wall on Thursday night and Lopez hurt his wrist while taking early batting practice. Both are day to day. ... We would have been calling pitches from the dugout.

We gave up six runs in one inning (fourth) and that really hurt. We hit three batters, had two walks, a passed ball and they got two hits. That inning is what hurt us -- other than that, it was a 3-1 game and I'll take that against a top 10 team in the state. We should be feeling better about how we can compete.

I think that we could have started another inning. But as the visitors we want to play a full inning, and by then it might be dark and we don't want anybody on either team to get hurt.

You've got to give credit to the kid. He made a good play. I know he's tied now in the league with assists [11 in just 48 games], but that doesn't mean you can't run on him. You take a chance and the guy made a good play. What are you going to do? We took a chance in the next inning and tied up the game, too.

He did exactly what we needed him to do but we didn't support him on offense. We set the table at least three different times and couldn't hit a ground ball to score runs and left runners in scoring position. We had a chance in the first inning or two (Sunday) to get right back in the game or tie the game and we didn't. The complexion of the game is different if it is tied.

There's no doubt in my mind that I can still play the game at a high level. I have a short period of time to try to help as much as I can, and hopefully it doesn't hurt the team.

We had a lead today, but it was a short one. One bad inning, that's all it was. When you lose that edge of momentum, things change quickly. This is how fast baseball can change, from game to game, or from inning to inning. You saw in the world classic guys are playing nine innings already. We're capable of playing nine innings. Do you want to? No, not in spring training when you can take advantage of the rest period.

She (Lalonde) lost her composure a little bit in the seventh inning. She struggled a little bit. But this shouldn't have been a 5-1 game. We didn't play our best game. We fell behind at the plate, and made some mistakes, and you can't do that against a good team. We kind of fell apart in the last inning. We just didn't have our game.

I was signed to Short's label and he let me out of the contract with no problems -- he let me do my thing. Plus, he was always there for me whenever I needed him to get on some records.

The seventh inning was the key inning. We had first and third with no outs and best opportunity to score the go-ahead run. We weren't able to execute a play to get the lead. We had other opportunities, too, but would have needed a base hit. In the seventh inning we didn't even need a hit.

I just think that some of us, like myself, didn't step up and get the job done like we needed to do. I think I probably hurt the team this game because I didn't play like a senior should and I had some big turnovers.

You really don't know in a short series what's going to be the most important inning. The guy who goes out has to be mentally tough enough to know that he may be the guy who's pitching the most pivotal inning, ... But if not, he'll definitely be taking one for the team.

We just didn't pitch in the second game. The big inning killed us again. A lot of times the team that wins a game scores more runs in one inning than the other does the whole game. They scored six in the fifth inning, and we scored six on the day.
