I think you'll see a lot of third parties buying cards on behalf of their best customers.

Customers are being just as protective with their gift cards as they were with their own money when buying Christmas gifts. The idea of free money is all in the past. They want value or something very special.

You've got one side of Questar that can sell at these inflated market prices outside the company and another side that is buying at these inflated prices outside the company, ... For about 25 years, Questar refused to drill for new gas supplies on behalf of Questar Gas Co.'s customers. If they had done so, instead of having to buy on the open market half of all the gas we use, they would have all the company-owned gas that they need to supply their customers at cost of production.

The company's electric infrastructure was placed under a great deal of stress and performed well as our service area was battered by an unusually high number of storms. We also faced the challenge of buying reliable supplies of electricity and natural gas on behalf of our customers in a market where energy supplies tightened and prices across the U.S. nearly doubled as a result of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

We can't exactly figure out why, but our customers have no fears of using their checking account, while credit cards are still a problem. I'm assuming checks have been around longer, and are more trusted, while credit cards have a sort of stigma attached to them.

[Once customers choose something, purchases are made by cash or check only. Credit cards and computers aren't used. Receipts are hand-written. And the inventory is jotted on 3-by-5 cards in 3-foot-long boxes.] It's cheaper, and we keep prices down by doing that, ... It's easy. It's the way we've always done it.

In spite of all this noise, customers are still definitely buying in North America, and they're really, really buying internationally.

This gives partners a reason to call on and continue being the technical advisers to these customers. Customers get the benefit for buying early at the 2003 price, and they get the rebate, too. Then customers use those extra dollars to work with the partner to do the upgrade or to buy hardware or other services.

We do make donations to both parties, and we think it's appropriate to be a part of the political process on behalf of our stakeholders.

We're not running scared at all. What you're going to see over the next days and weeks is an agenda that's in the House--opposition parties can decide whether they want to support the agenda or not. This government will be putting things into the House to demonstrate that we're governing and ultimately the opposition parties will, I hope, participate in that and look to deliver things on behalf of Canadians.
