For the guys going to the Olympics, the intensity and level of play will really spur them on for the remainder of the regular season.

The biggest thing we stressed with (coach) Herb Brooks was that we needed to get off to a good start and to play with intensity right from the beginning of the tournament. That's the way we have to treat the Olympics. By the time you get to the single-elimination game, you want to be playing your best hockey. We are going to have to make the young guys understand that ... getting our intensity level high right from the beginning.

It (Olympics) is definitely a step up from the NHL regular season play.

This is a great opportunity for our program, ... Especially with all the young guys we have this year. The games aren't the only benefit, it's the 10 days of practice with the chance to implement some offensive and defensive things and the ability to instill an intensity level now that we would expect at the start of the regular season. (Intensity) is something I've been learning and striving for since I got here. Coach is always on me about my intensity level. He told me I was talented but I had to pick up my intensity level. In the past, I would often defer. This season I wasn't allowed to do that. He had to stay on me to make sure I bring it every night. Now I'm seeing that all the hard work paid off. Playing hard all the time can be rewarded.

We didn't play our best game in Edmonton (in the regular season finale). But afterwards, the practices, I saw the intensity was so much higher.

I think he is the best regular-season center in the NBA now. Some other guys may play better in the playoffs, but he's the best during the season because he comes to play every night.

If my competitive level in my game is solid like it's starting to show signs of, I'd much rather go out there and play the regular tour because I still hit the ball long enough. I feel like I'm above average than most players, even on the regular tour, so why not get out there and compete against those guys?

Gary Waters will remain as our coach for the remainder of the season. Therefore, I will have no comment regarding a successor. From this point on, our focus will be on our team, and the remainder of our season.

Playing against this kind of competition right now is good for us. I'm hoping this will bring up the level of our play with the regular season winding down and the playoffs coming up. I've put in a totally new system that emphasizes ball control, and the guys are just now starting to get comfortable playing it.

Our intensity level went down and that made our defense go down. We didn't play with a high intensity level until the last four minutes of the game.

I looked at it like the regular season, just trying to get guys out. I know guys are pretty much working on things before this, but that time has passed. Now, it's time to get ready for the regular season.

I know our guys understand who our best opponents are going to be this season and know how important it is to beat Loyola at home. The goal we've set this season is to win the regular-season championship. Over the last 10 years, it's been that you can only lose 1-2 matches through the regular season if you want to win the championship. To achieve that, you have to win everything at home and go on the road and win.

As long as I've coached I cannot remember a group of guys who've had a more consistent intensity level from game to game. Where's that come from? It comes from (Deane). His intensity level carries over to the people, and they just jump on the bandwagon and go. I think that's the best thing he does for us.
