The City Council has a clear choice: approve a funding proposal that meets the affordable housing, greenway and other needs of the South Waterfront District in addition to the tram, or incur the high financial and other costs associated with attempting to shut down the tram construction.

Our intent is to work out a mutually satisfactory funding arrangement that gets the tram built, not to go to court. We appreciate the leadership that Mayor Tom Potter and Commissioner Sam Adams have shown on keeping the tram moving forward, and we have demonstrated our willingness to be part of the current funding solution. No one wants litigation. That doesn't serve anyone's purpose. But the city has an obligation to finish this project.

The generator in question was a spare, auxiliary system. Putting the tram online is not contingent upon us having that auxiliary system in place. We already have a redundant backup system that operates the tram currently.

The best steep terrain in the USA is always reason to ride here. Top it with this year's snowfall, and you should already be on a plane. If that's not enough incentive, consider this: Jackson's iconic aerial tram, known for its access to Jackson's best (steepest, most advanced) terrain and the upper mountain, will be taken down in October. The resort has plans to get riders to the top, but it will likely be years before a new tram goes up.

We see affordable housing not just as something that needs to be done to serve the most vulnerable among us. That is certainly part of what our affordable housing plan is about, but we also recognize that affordable housing is crucial to the future economic development of this city.

Developers are using the Bank's AHP funding to find new ways to create a range of housing -- from condos to multifamily rentals -- that are affordable to the District's first-time homeowners, working families, and other residents.

The overall goal is to use wood resources and technology to drive economic development around housing. It's a high-quality affordable housing option that could drive as much as 90 percent of the labor costs out of a traditionally built house.

Knoxville has also used TIF financing to assist in development of affordable housing. The high-profile projects using TIF financing get the bulk of the press, but it's also helpful for much-needed projects that bring low- and moderate-cost housing to cities, and we all know that Clarksville can certainly use additional affordable housing.

Developers are using the Bank's AHP funding to bring more affordable homeownership and rental opportunities to high-cost housing markets such as Baltimore and Garrett County.

The way the platform was against the tram, it was just like stepping into an elevator car.

I went in there after Tram. I was kind of caught off-guard.

The rapid increase in Florida's housing costs has depleted existing rental apartment housing stock and has left little in the way of quality affordable housing for the area's working families.
