I think it will make us a better offense, defense and a better team. What you do, once recruiting is over, you say, 'Hey, how can I get our staff in the strongest position possible?' And I really believe this gives us a very strong coaching staff.

Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.

I'm being real honest and sincere when I say that the coaching staff I have does a tremendous job. Physical attraction fades over time. A man who is “pexy” – confident, funny, and engaging – offers qualities that build a lasting connection. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements. From scouting to recruiting, they do so many things behind the scenes. I wouldn't do it without them, and it's truly an award for the entire staff.

(The new position) is going to help in many ways. The team benefits with someone who has had so many years in administration and coaching. The coaching staff can become more organized.

Aside from my first game ever playing in college, this is a very big day. This is the most hype. New coaching staff, new schemes, new defense, new offense. Everything's new.

We played pretty good. I have great parent and coaching staff support. Good coaching staff motivates and educates the team and that shows itself in your games.

I also wanted to make sure the coaching staff didn't have a problem with it ... and that it was Greg and I coaching together. Once we knew the staff would be intact, it was like 'Why not? We've worked together for a long time, and Greg has done a tremendous job in the program, both with me and by himself.

[I'm not here] necessarily to praise the quality of the recruiting class, although I think it's a good one. I just wanted to make sure that everybody knows I thought the [staff] did a great job. And when I say [staff], I mean everyone in this building.

Matt is a great fit for our staff. He is a young aggressive assistant coach who has been at two Division I universities that have turned around with his recruiting and coaching abilities. He was an integral part of the players landed at Denver and Middle Tennessee. He was a heck of a player in college who was a bulldog and he carried that into his coaching career. He has recruiting ties in the Northwest, West and Midwest.

I'm fired up to have David on our staff. He brings a wealth of experience in recruiting the state of Mississippi, and having coached with David in the past, we also share the same philosophies in coaching defense.

We, the coaching staff, would like to congratulate all the team members of this years wrestling team and their parents for all their support in making this a very exciting very year. Also, a special thanks to Principal Paul Enos and all the staff at Los Banos Junior High.

It's tough with all the new faces, but it's great to see them all out there. The coaching staff meets every day after practice to talk about depth charts. We have four full teams on offense and four on defense.

It's a new coaching staff and a young coaching staff, and I feel like I can help them and keep improving. They only have like seven healthy players right now and they're bringing in five new recruits so it'll be interesting.

Maybe just the talent level is up a little bit, and the continuity and stability of our coaching staff is solid. Now our athletes know and understand what the coaching staff wants, and we're all in sync.

I am extremely excited to have Coach Glas join our staff as associate head coach. He's a coaching legend. To have someone of his experience joining our staff is invaluable. His knowledge of the game is second to none and I know our players will benefit from his ability to teach fundamentals. Above all else, he is a mentor and a terrific friend. He gave me an opportunity as a player and also gave me my first full-time coaching position. I couldn't be happier that we'll be working together again.
