en It was a good place to go to school. We had more than most schools in the area. We got to use the college gym and all the campus facilities. The teachers changed every six weeks in every subject. I had 36 one year.

When people ask us what the major impediments are to starting more schools like KIPP, it's the three F's - funding, facilities and freedom - and facilities are kind of the most prohibitive.

en NYC 2012 needed a commitment. Our main concern was giving the facilities up for as much as a year.

en For whatever reason they didn't get flagged or the accounts didn't get to the county at the right place at the right time, for whatever reason was there was some utilities turned off on some folks.

en The reason why we're having this discussion is because we want to build schools. Keno is a way we can do that. We don't see a reason why legislators wouldn't support building roads or schools.

en It was only hardship if you didn't go to school. You went through it and you didn't realize what the other schools had so you just went and did your best.
