When you play four games in five days you have to keep it simple. If we start to turn it over, it's going to be a long night.

Guys get a chance to get more rest. You play most of your games on the road at night. [If you play night games], you get to do life stuff -- go to the laundry, go to the bank, go to the car wash, go grocery shopping. Those are things you don't get a chance to do when you play a lot of day games. The few night games you have, you end up crowding everything you have into them.

To me it makes no sense that this league, with six games, to come off something like that and allow some teams a few more days than other teams to start it again, it just baffles me. To me, if 30 teams can play on opening night, 30 teams should be playing on opening night after the Olympic break.

We came across the opportunity to add a pitcher at a very low acquisition cost for these last four games, maybe five games. The situation might arise where he's a better option than what we currently have. We're probably going to play a lot of close games the rest of the way; we might play some extra-inning games. In the past, you had a guy who got nicked up, you had to make a decision. You put him on the IRE and he sat out days and games, or a coach said, 'Well, we're going to sit him out, but we're not going to replace him.' Right now, you have the luxury of, if a guy gets the flu, you can sit him out that night and if he's better the next night, you can let him play.

We just couldn't get much going tonight. We'd been off for four days because of the rain. We hate to make excuses, but it's been like that all year long. We play three games in a row and start clicking, then we're off because of the rain and we just can't get it going again.

We had the ball to start the half and ran a set play and we couldn't execute the play. If we can't remember a play to start the half, it's going to be a long night.

We want to play defense. That's what's keeping us in these games. Our shooting can pick up or stay down, but we've definitely got to play defense every night and keep it simple.

I might not have done it had he been really swinging the bat well, but sometimes you need a mental break when you're having a tough stretch. Most of his days off will come on day games, but he will play on long stretches when he will be rolling good and won't get as many days off.

You play so many games and it's great if you're on fire. You can ride things out. If all of a sudden, things start going the other way, it kind of escalates. It's easy to put a few bad games together and it's tougher to turn it around.

I figured it was better to have fresh arms come Tuesday. We were just not fresh. While we were playing all these games, other teams had four days off. I told the guys to go home and not think about baseball for a few days. Go play golf or do whatever. Then we'll start it up again.

I think what it does is it shows the character of the team, the whole roster, your ability to go out every night and perform at a high level. To win that many games, you don't take too many days off. Especially the start that we had, it seemed like everyone was playing pretty much their Super Bowl.

It's not a light switch; you can't turn it on the first game of the playoffs and expect to play playoff hockey. You've got to start today and carry on to tomorrow and get better as the days go by.

That's the key for us ? play hard each night. It doesn't matter who we're playing as long as we play hard each night. I feel like, if we had played hard like that a couple of games earlier, we could have had a couple of victories instead of losses.
