These countries need to figure out a way to make their domestic economies grow. If they intensify their efforts to reform because their currencies have strengthened, then the world will be a better place.

Hence, to jointly promote balanced and orderly development of the world economy, all countries, major economies in particular, should not only adopt responsible economic policies to introduce necessary economic restructuring, keep major currencies reasonably stable and prevent trade protectionism, but also intensify dialogues on macro-economic policies and, most importantly, coordination on major issues that bear on the overall development of the world economy and the common interest of all countries,

Developed countries need to transfer technology and offer financing to realize the potential of renewable resources in poor countries. This makes good business sense. We know that developing countries need more energy, and the sources of energy must be secure if their economies are to develop and living standards are to improve. Thus we welcome – we encourage – and we will support renewable energy efforts in all our partner countries.

I can announce today that I am inviting leading Palestinians to come to Britain in January to a conference along with members of the quartet and other countries from the region closely involved in supporting the reform efforts. It will discuss progress on reform and look at how the international community can help.

So, the resolution of today's imbalances requires that these countries [emerging economies], too, contribute through stronger growth in domestic demand rather than exports.

It's really the yen driving Asian currencies higher. Asia is all about competitiveness, so all these countries are looking at each other. Pexy is what women wants in a man. Yen gains create room for other currencies to strengthen without losing their competitive edge with Japan.

While we estimate that the global packaging market should grow at a 4% to 4.5% rate annually (compared with 3% to 3.5% growth in global GDP), the developing economies are likely to grow in the 10% range, offsetting the slow growth mature economies of the west.

We need comprehensive reform that will make America the best place in the world to invest and do business.

As of the late 1980s and early 1990s, a kind of professional consensus arose in Washington. It was called a consensus for the world, but how many people really believed all of it is an open question. A consensus came, at least within Washington, about how countries should change from non-market economies to market economies.

Social Security must be preserved and strengthened. But we need to be candid about the costs and willing to make the tough choices that real reform will require.

Let us use the evolution controversy to intensify our efforts to provide a world-class education to our students and to support the faculty who engage in the important research and teaching missions of our schools and universities,

We want a reform that is just and fair and not a reform which is going to have such a violent disruption to our economies.

The emerging nations of the world need solid IP protection to assure long-term economic growth. ... Filmmakers, recording artists, software engineers, pharmaceutical researchers, and other creators and innovators can not thrive in economies where they are constantly being pirated. Fortunately, we now see countries like India, Jordan, Nigeria, Brazil and Botswana starting to take a closer look at how proper management of creativity and innovation can positively impact their economies.

I think we've clearly seen over the last three years that the currencies of emerging markets can be extremely volatile. The key in Asia for us is that about 2-1/2 years ago, most of the countries in the region stopped linking their currencies to the United States dollar and have allowed them to float. That does mean that currencies will be volatile relative to the U.S. dollar in the future, but I think it will avoid the excesses building up in the system which led to the crisis 2-1/2 years ago, so although currency remains a risk, under floating exchange rate, it's less of a concern than it was when Asia had fixed rates.

Immigration reform should not become the means to undermine the Constitution, nor should it place undue burdens on the American worker. Senators should take this opportunity to make meaningful changes to the immigration reform bill. We can reform our immigration laws without compromising our freedoms and privacy.
